Ekaterina Mochalova
domra

Ekaterina Mochalova graduated from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music (class of Professor Vyacheslav Kruglov) and the assistant internship of the Academy of Music. She defended her PhD thesis on the history of mandolin art. The winner of the First All-Russian Music Competition, international competitions in Moscow (named after P. I. Necheporenko), Tokyo and Osaka.

Soloist of the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Russia named after N. P. Osipov, since 2019 – concertmaster. Teaches at the Department of Stringed Folk Instruments of the Gnessin Academy of Music. Conducts master classes, participates in the jury of performance competitions. Head of the Domra Anthology project at the Gnessin Academy of Sciences.

 

The first performer of a number of compositions for domra and mandolin by Kuzma Bodrov, Mikhail Bronner, Kirill Volkov, Efrem Podhaits, Alexander Tsygankov, Alexander Tchaikovsky. She has performed with leading orchestras in Russia, Hong Kong, and Portugal. Collaborated with famous musicians; took part in the Winter Arts Festival in Sochi and the Yuri Bashmet International Festival in Khabarovsk, the festivals "Stars on Baikal", "Denis Matsuev and Friends", Crescendo, "Roads of Prosecco" (Italy), Osaka International Mandolin Festival (Japan) and others.
