Born in Stavanger in 1983. He studied at the Rogaland Conservatory, then privately with Professor Jiri Glinka and at the Marie-Louise Barratt Due School of Music in Oslo. Winner of the Balis Dvarionas International Competition in Vilnius, winner of the Rudolf Firkushna Competition in Prague.

Hudland came to international attention in 2011 as a member of the BBC's two-year program for young gifted musicians. He performed with all five orchestras of the British corporation, gave a number of solo and chamber concerts in London, and in the final of the project he performed brilliantly at the BBC Proms festival with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko.

The musician actively tours in Europe, the USA and Australia, collaborates with the leading orchestras of Scandinavia and Great Britain and famous conductors, including  Andrew Davies, Herbert Bloomstedt, Thomas Dausgaard, Thomas Søndergaard, Leonard Slatkin. Since 2013 he has performed regularly at London's Wigmore Hall; is a regular participant of festivals in Risør, Bergen, Oslo, Schleswig-Holstein, London (BBC Proms) and others. In 2010 he became Artistic Director of the Stavanger Chamber Music Festival.

In 2006 he accompanied soprano René Fleming at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo. In 2015 he toured Australia with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham.

He has recorded several CDs, some of them were awarded prizes and nominations, in particular, the Spellemann Prize for the recording of J. S. Bach's Goldberg Variations (2015). The album of music by E. Grieg and P. Grainger, recorded with the Danish cellist Andreas Brantelid, was noted as an "editor's choice" by Gramophone magazine. Hudland's latest release, The Lark (Simax), was nominated for the Spellemann Prize in 2017.
