Pavel Stepin

Pavel Stepin graduated from the Gnessin Moscow State Music School, the Moscow Conservatory and the MGK assistant internship in the specialty "contrabass" (class of Professor Lev Rakov). He continued his studies at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music with a degree in symphonic conducting (class of Andrey Rein).

 

Laureate of the International Competition of Young Musicians-performers on String Instruments, the international competition "The Skill of an orchestrator" in Russia, the Johannes Matthias Sperger double bass competitions in Germany and Giovanni Bottesini in Italy, diploma winner of the I Open Interregional Competition of Young Conductors of Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras named after I. A. Musin.

 

Since 1999 – artist, then concertmaster of the double bass group of the Symphony Orchestra of the Great Hall of the Conservatory, since 2000 – artist of the chamber orchestra "Moskovia" under the direction of Eduard Grach. Since 2009 – soloist of the ensemble "Studio of New Music" under the direction of Igor Dronov (artistic director – Vladimir Tarnopolsky). Currently, he is the concertmaster of the double bass group of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra of Russia. He also performs as a soloist and as part of various ensembles, takes part in Russian and international festivals.
