Vartan Babayan

Born in 1974 in Yerevan. He graduated from the Yerevan Musical School named after Sayat-Nova in the class of percussion instruments, studied at the Yerevan State Conservatory, then at the pop-jazz department of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. For many years he played in the ensemble of the legendary saxophonist Anatoly Gerasimov. Participated in international projects of Alex Rostotsky, Alexei Kozlov, gave concerts with Vladimir Chekasin. Participant of the largest Russian jazz festivals, as well as the Boris Andrianov Musical Expedition and Vivacello festivals, the Yuri Bashmet festival in Yaroslavl. In 2009 he organized his own jazz project VB Quintet.

Played with prominent contemporary musicians such as Russell Malone, Paco Sary, Linley Marte, Yves Cornelius. Currently he is participating in the projects of Anna Koroleva (saxophone, vocals), Alexey Kuznetsov, Artem Lalayan (piano), in the ethno-fusion project Mirros. Collaborates with Dmitry Ilugdin (piano), Felix Lakhuti (violin), Leonid and Nikolai Vintskevich, Dmitry Yakovlev (piano), Lyudmila Svarovskaya (vocals), Anton Gorbunov (bass), Anton Kotikov (saxophones, flute), Alexander Vershinin (piano) and others.
